Forest management planning

In accordance with its voluntary policy of responsible forest management, the group is implementing forest management plans on all its concessions. These plans meet requirements at three levels: preservation of the ecosystem and the biodiversity, social progress for workers and their families and the respect of local populations and their traditional forest practices.

This is a true management tool keeping the harvesting on a level where it does not affect the forest’s ability to regenerate (average harvesting intensity: 1 to 2 trees per ha every 25 years).

Certification

In 2004, Rougier obtained ISO 14001 certification for its “environmental management” system.

In 2008, 3 out of 4 FCSM (Forest concession under sustainable management) were FSC® certified (certification of good forest management).

Since october 2013, the 4 FCSM are now FSC® certified.

In 2018 and 2019, all FCSM were recertified FSC® for a new 5-year cycle.

Rougier started operations in Gabon in 1952 and through its Gabonese subsidiaries the group exploits some 895 000 ha of forest with an annual log production of approximately 300 000 m³. In all, Rougier Gabon has about 1 000 employees (equally divided between logging and industrial timber processing).
